The founders chose the name from the Greek words knowledge, duty, and power. Kappa Delta Pi members keep good company, Albert Einstein, George Washington Carver, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Margaret Mead are just a few members that have made outstanding contributions to the development of professional education. For over a century, the Society has consistently grown, starting with a local chapter to become the international organization it is today, with an initiated membership that exceeds 1.2 million. The mission of Kappa Delta Pi is to sustain an honored community of diverse educators by promoting excellence and advancing scholarship, leadership, and service.
The vision of Kappa Delta Pi is to help committed educators be leaders in improving education for global citizenship.

Phi Theta Kappa
Invitation, application and acceptance required for membership
Phi Theta Kappa is the premier international honor society for two-year colleges. Its primary function is to recognize and promote scholastic achievement in community, technical, and junior college students. Based on four hallmarks (Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Fellowship), Phi Theta Kappa offers students more than just a membership certificate; it is an active organization with opportunities for fun and service both on- and off-campus.
Membership is offered to students who have earned a grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 or higher, who have earned 12 or more college credits, and who have declared a major.Â
The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) recognized Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) as the official honor society for two-year colleges in 1929. If you receive an email from another honor society asking you to join and pay membership dues, it may be a scam.
PTK is the only legitimate honor society for two-year colleges that will contact you if you are eligible for membership. PTK communications will be sent from email addresses ending in @ptk.org.
If you have any questions, or receive an invitation from someone outside of èßäÉçÇøAPP asking you to join an honor society, please reach out to èßäÉçÇøAPP’s PTK Advisor, Lyndy Galan, at lgalan@chesapeake.edu for guidance.
